The 5 B’s (Bethel’s Brown Bag Book Bunch) meets the 4th Thursday each month from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Having selected a book the month before, the group meets to discuss and share ideas about the chosen book. Bringing their own “brown bag” lunch is optional, but most women do and enjoy sharing with each other while they eat. This group meets in the library at Bethel UMC and is open to all who like to read. Attending Bethel for church services is not a requirement. We have women from all over Lancaster County join us.

We have an active Women in Mission group that meets each month at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday in the church library. We are a mission-minded group donating our efforts to helping others in the community. We recently had speakers from The Haven and Mother’s Heart. Both God breathed organizations.

The Women of Emmanuel’s motto is “Like Dorcas, we embody grace, charity and selfless service to others, all to the glory of God.” We meet quarterly on the third Saturday at 10am. Our next meeting will be Saturday, January 17th.

As a United Methodist supported mission, we participate in mission trips to Bo, Sierra Leone. We packed New Mother Hygiene Kits and Layette Kits and delivered them for distribution at Mercy Hospital in Bo.

Bethel UMC and Corrottoman Baptist Church co-sponsor activities for youth from ages 5-12. Our program offers Bible study, fun-filled age-appropriate activities and snacks. Activities range from movies to making cards for assisted living residents to kickball and cookouts, weather permitting. It is a time on for the youth to gather with good wholesome fun and activities that are age appropriate.

During the giving season before Christmas, we participate in the Toys for Tots program. The program helps parents provide a meaningful Christmas for their children.

Our United Methodist Men from both churches meet on the second Wednesday each month at 6:30 p.m in the Bethel Fellowship Hall. They begin with a volunteer-prepared meal and start their business meeting at 7 p.m.

On the second Thursday of each month, the Pavilion at Trinity Episcopal Church, 8484 Mary Ball Road, is transformed into a Food Pantry where we provide fresh produce, frozen meat, and general groceries for over 100 local families.
The Food Pantry is powered by volunteers who begin to gather at 9 am am to unload the food delivery truck and prepare the food for distribution. At 11 am, we open the doors for our clients and load the cars with the groceries. By 3 pm, we close the doors after a successful day of helping our neighbors. We currently serve over 100 families each month.
All voIunteers are welcome the 2nd Thursday of each month. No experience necessary.
Additionally, Bethel and Emmanuel UMC collects pasta and pasta sauce (in plastic bottles) all month long for the pantry. Donations may be brought to the church on Sunday and they are delivered to the pantry.
We also have these prayer buddies who share our pews on Sundays and then are sent forth to provide comfort for our neighbors in need.
